Bergen Toy & Novelty Co.
Farm Animals and Figures

Sales list. All photos show the actual items for sale, unless stated otherwise. ID numbers are from Richard O'Brien's Collecting American-Made Toy Soldiers, Edition No. 3, 1997. Both paint condition and color variations among otherwise identical figures are very important for Beton toys, and every attempt has been made to provide accurate verbal descriptions of those features. Mild paint loss and imperfections are common, but there are no breaks, splits, cracks, chips, repairs, significant paint wear, or deterioration of the plastic unless noted. All items are in hard plastic unless stated otherwise. If you would like to see another view of any figure or group, Ponylope can e-mail photos on request — just ask! Free shipping on all orders of $50 or more.

ANIMALS

N029aN029b

BT 130 Prancing Horse and BT 74 Colt

Because this large horse has no molded saddle, Ponylope includes her with the farm animals. Here she prances
with her young foal, as if in some green pasture. Both are in nicely matched mint condition.

N029     $25

Over the Moon?

N030bN030a

BT 77 Running Cow and BT 76 Standing Cow

The Standing Cow has some paint rubs on the right side, and the brown cow a few freckles of missing point. This rich brown plastic animal with mocha overpainting is a quintessential Beton bovine, though I don’t think these colors exist in nature. The white cow with black spots is close to a Holstein, though her spots are shaded, not sharp-edged.

N030     [Each]     $15   OR     [Pair]     $25     SOLD

N034bN034a

BT 77 Running Cow and BT 69 Calf

Beton cattle are hard to find and in some demand. All three of these examples are in excellent condition.

N034     [BT 69 Calf, Each]     $5             BT 77   SOLD

P034aP034b

BT 61 Bull, BT 152 Lying Cow, and BT 77 Running Cow

Beton actually termed BT 152 a “sitting” cow. But because cows don’t really sit as a natural behavior, Ponylope thinks of this pose as “lying,” as in lying down. She’s in excellent condition, and in an uncommon color. The black bull has a little wear on the left side, and Bossie 77 is excellent.

P034     [Each]     $15   OR     [Group]     $40     SOLD

P041b cr

P041a cr

BT 77 Running Cow, BT 152 Lying Cow, and BT 76 Standing Cow

Many of Beton’s cows are in odd colors, but these two on the left are not far from Holsteins, which are black-on-white. BT 77 has very worn paint, but an interesting swirled cream/gray base plastic. Paint condition on the lying cow is easily seen in the photos. The Standing Cow has significant wear on the ears, face, feet, and right side

P041     [Group]     $22     SOLD

Baa Baa Brown Sheep

R069aR069b

BT 119 Lamb, BT 131 Ram, BT 150 Ewe

A family of woolly ovines, with twin lambs. The ewe is marbled in browns and white.

R069   $15

N035aN035b

BT 131 Ram, BT 119 Lamb, BT 150 Ewe

Another family of sheep, in three of Beton’s typical farm animal shades.

N035     $10

Get My Goat

RN007b

BT 95 Nanny Goat, BT 56 Baby Goat

All of these are solid colors, but the goat has a bit of marbling on her left side, in brown and pale gray.

RN007    $18

RN003

BT 128 Piglet and BT 163 Pig

Beton has only one adult pig (called simply a “swine”), no male and female versions,
but Ponylope is labeling this a sow and a small litter. Mama is a deep brown shot
through with white on one side. Three of the piglets also have a bit of contrasting
color, though it is subtle.

RN003    $18

Take a Gander

RN005

BT 97 Goose and BT 98 Gosling

Goose, gander . . . Beton has only one gender of this large farm bird. You decide!
Here is a flock in six different colors. The rosy and beige geese have a “5” marked
on the bottom of the base - probably an old price.

RN005    $15

R066

BT 72 Hen, BT 146 Rooster

A small barnyard full of fowl, with an unusual black rooster. A heritage breed?

R066     $12

A Golden Goose Plus

N033

BT 97 Goose, BT 72 Hen, BT 146 Rooster

The golden hen has a faint price marked on the bottom of her base.

N033     $12

FIGURES

Farm Family

R064aR064b

BT 92 Farmerette, BT 90 Farm Girl, BT 91 Farmer

You’d think it would be easier to assemble matching farm figures, but more than two of a kind is difficult. In this trio, daughter obviously takes after Mom, both being redheads in dark blue plastic. Dad is in butterscotch plastic with no hair to speak of. His armful of potatoes are as red as apples.

R064     $20

A Little Girl and Her Pony

R068a02R068b

BT 148 Small Standing Horse and BT 90 Farm Girl

You know she’d be riding if she didn’t have all those chores to do! The patient pony stands saddled and waiting.
